DESCRIPTION:Stockton Lake to host annual managed deer hunt \nSTOCKTON\, Mo.\, — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Stockton Lake and The Stockton Lions Club will host the 21st Annual Stockton Lake Managed Deer Hunt for persons with physical disabilities Nov. 3 and 4\, 2018\, in Hawker Point\, Masters and Orleans Trail South parks. \nThe hunt is limited to persons with disabilities\, or those permanently confined to wheelchairs\, walkers\, canes and/or crutches. A total of 20 individuals were selected for this managed hunt using a random drawing for those that meet the selection criteria. \n\nTo maintain a high level of safety\, Hawker Point and Orleans Trail South parks will close Oct. 29 and will reopen Nov. 6. Masters Park will be closed to archery hunting and hiking on November 3rd and 4th. Individuals planning activities in these areas should consider other options around the lake. \n“Each year about 20 to 25 hunters take part in this tradition\,” says Derrick Phillips\, Stockton Lake park ranger. “We have a great program in place for mobility-impaired hunters and traditionally allow them access to closed park areas the weekend prior to opening firearms deer season. DESCRIPTION:The Stockton Area Chamber of Commerce encourages the community to take part in Small Business\, which falls between Black Friday and Cyber Monday. This national campaign asks citizens to dedicate a portion of their holiday shopping to local\, independently-owned businesses. \nShop Small is a Small Business Saturday Resolution the US Senate unanimously passed. It is a national campaign which falls between Black Friday and Cyber Monday.  The campaign asks shoppers to dedicate a portion of their shopping to local\, independently-owned businesses. For every $100 spent at a locally owned small business\, $68 returns to the community through taxes\, payroll\, and other expenditures\, according to Civic Economics\, an economic analysis and strategic planning consultancy.  \n“When you shop local\, you are not only providing revenue to the business owner\, which means you are helping to provide a livelihood for your neighbors; it provides revenue to the city\, which in turn is used to improve the infrastructure; and when small business grows\, there is an opportunity to create more jobs for locals.”  \nMembers of the Stockton Area Chamber of Commerce are exhibiting “SHOP SMALL” signs in their windows. Please watch for these signs and consider supporting your community by shopping at these businesses.

DESCRIPTION:At the beginning of each year\, the Stockton Lake Association\, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers\, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources\, and the Missouri Department of Conservation combine forces to bring the community a spectacle of nature’s beauty known as Eagle Days. \nEagle Day lake tours offer a view point of Stockton Lake not seen from the roadway or campground and can offer a breathtaking view of nature’s beauty. \nMDC agents conduct annual eagle counts on the lake each year and scope out the “hot spots” for this event.  The annual Stockton Lake Census has averaged approximately 75 eagles in past years. \nTo join the tour register with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at 417-276-3113 by 4 p.m. January 11.
